About The Event


May is Child Care Appreciation Month

With this conference we hope to give educators a special day filled with the appreciation they deserve.

Our conference will include a full day of networking and professional learning opportunities.

We will have a panel of speakers, workshops, snacks, beverages and goodie bags for participants.

For this event we expect 60-80 attendees at The Cove Indoor Play, a neurodiverse friendly play space in New Westminster BC

About The Organizer


About Ana Valle Rivera

Ana is a proud mother of three, a public speaker, a consultant, and the founder of Early Years Thriving.

Ana has facilitated hundreds of professional development workshops for thousands of educators, teachers, and parents. Ana has a Diploma in ECE, a Bachelor’s Degree in Child & Youth Care, and is currently completing a Master’s of Professional Education in ECE.

Co-Host and Speaker: Ana will be a co-host and speaker at the Early Years Thriving Conference. She will be leading discussions on inclusion and creating environments that promote wellbeing and belonging for all families and children.

About Nicole Hoodicolf

Nicole Hoodicoff has been involved in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) community for over 20 years. She earned her ECE diploma many years ago and has worked in various roles, including supportive childcare, behavior interventionist, preschool teacher, StrongStart facilitator, and Childcare Resource & Referral coordinator.

When she’s not working, you can find her enjoying gardening, playing pickleball, and spending time with her husband and children.

Co-host and organizer: Nicole will be co-hosting and organizing the event with Ana.

About Ashleigh Davies

Ashleigh Davies is an early childhood educator with her bachelors in Early Childhood Education & Care and has worked with children in a variety of roles over the last decade. She is the current head coordinator of the ECE program with Burnaby Continuing Education, previously working as the Northshore Municipal Child Care Consultant and assistant manager with CCRR. Ashleigh presents her workshops throughout Canada, bringing her passion for ECE into every session and can be found online as Pedagogyandchill. 

Workshop Breakout Session: Embracing Tensions: Encounters with Tough Topics

Workshop Description: How do we respond when tensions around tough topics arise? This workshop addresses why it’s important to critically engage with children, how to have conversations with families, and ways to engage with tough topics. We will look at what it means to embrace the tensions in our educational settings and what can grow from engaging with said tensions. 

About Ilam Muralidharan

Ilam Muralidharan has been a working as an Early Childhood Educators for nearly 15 years in British Columbia. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education from Capilano University and is currently pursuing her Masters in Education through Western University in Ontario. She is passionate about working collaboratively with children, families and educators in cultivating welcoming, inclusive and equitable spaces.

Workshop Breakout Session: What's on your Plate? A critical look at food practices in ECE classrooms

Workshop Description: This workshop looks critically at food practices in ECE classrooms by deconstructing educator's beliefs and perspectives on what it means to be healthy and the corresponding implications to pedagogical practice: Are we hindering or cultivating equitable spaces that welcome all children and families? We will also briefly look at licensing requirements as well as the Canada Food Guide.

About Carli Miller

Carli has been working and growing in the Early Childhood Education field for over 12 years. After receiving an Early Childhood Education diploma, Carli completed a bachelors degree in Child and Youth Care and she will continue on to study a Masters of Counselling in October. Presently Carli work as a Program Manager at a centre with children ages 2.5yrs to 5yrs old. Carli strongly believe in learning and discovering through play! 

Workshop Interview Session: Promoting pro-social learning in inclusive child care settings 

In this workshop interview session Carli will be asked about how to best support pro-social learning in inclusive child care settings. Attendees will be able to submit questions in advance and will be able to ask live questions during the session.

About Kayla Papalia

Kayla Papalia is an early childhood educator with over 10 years in the field. Since 2021, she opened an In-Home Multi Age Childcare program. She has also worked as an instructor in a post secondary institution. Kayla’ passion lies in helping home care providers finding new and innovative ways to ensure their programs are providing quality care for both children and their families.

Panellist: Chats on inclusion in child care settings 

Kayla will sit alongside Ashleigh and Ilam as we discuss how to create inclusive spaces that go beyond the minimal expectations. Attendees will be able to submit questions in advance and will be able to ask live questions during the panel session.


About The Location


The Cove Indoor Play; A Neurodiverse Friendly Play Space

The Cove Indoor Play is a clean, calm and secure space where children can play and parents can relax. The Cove Indoor Play is located on the second floor of the Royal City Mall in New Westminster BC. 

We are so thankful to be able to host our event at The Cove Indoor Play.

If you plan to attend here are a few important things to note:

  • No shoes or heels allowed inside.
  • Attendees can bring their own indoor shoes/slippers/socks.
  • We will have shoe covers for those who are unable to switch their shoes.

Parking options;

  • Pay parking is available underground. The first 4 hours are free.

Lunch and food options:

  • Light snacks and beverages such as coffee, tea and water will be available in the back snack room.
  • Food is not allowed in the main room or workshop rooms.
  • Lunch will not be provided but there is a food court on the main level of Royal City Mall with lunch options.
  • Attendees can bring their own lunch and use the microwave in the back snack room.

Is this an online or in-person?

This event is in-person on May 3rd in at 'The Cove Indoor Play' in Royal City Mall in New Westminster BC. 

How do I join this event?

You must register online. Tickets will not be sold at the door

Will there be parking?

There is parking underground with 4 free hours and pay parking for any additional hours needed.

What other important things do I need to know?

The event will be hosted inside an indoor play space which means you will need to wear/bring indoor shoes, indoor slippers or socks. We will also have shoe covers for those who prefer to keep their shoes on.

Is food included with my ticket?

Light snacks and beverages such as water, coffee and tea will be included. Lunch is not included. The location is within Royal City Mall and there is a food court right below the venue with food options.

Will I receive a receipt?

Yes shortly after you register you will receive an email receipt and email confirmation.
If you do not recieve any emails from us, please contact us immediately.

Will there be a recording of this event?

We will take photos and some recording of the event but recordings will not be available to participants.
 

Will I receive a Completion Certificate? 

Certificates of completion will be available based on the number of hours attended.

Will this PD be accepted by the ECE registry in my province?

Most of our live and self paced ECE trainings are widely accepted as PD hours by ECE registries and we are always happy to verify attendance as needed.
